"It is true that it pains me to leave my Tullgarn to suffer the heat of Stockholm's stony streets."

Duke Fredrik Adolf, summer 1794

Open summer palaces

The royal summer palaces were of great importance to royalty, offering relaxation and time for interests such as interior design, art, animals and nature.

For example, King Gustav III built a palace in Haga Park with interior décor that has gone down in art history. King Karl XIV Johan planned an art museum next to his summer palace at Rosendal. Queen Desideria built a house at Rosersberg for her white peacocks.

The summer palaces include the Chinese Pavilion, Tullgarn Palace, Rosersberg Palace, Strömsholm Palace, Ulriksdal Palace, Rosendal Palace and Gustav III's Pavilion.

A royal residence, a historic castle and a World Heritage Site

The Royal Palace (The King's official residence), the World Heritage Site of Drottningholm Palace and King Gustav Vasa's Gripsholm Castle will be open daily during the summer season.

The Riddarholmen Church – Stockholm's only preserved medieval abbey – will also be open daily during the summer.

Two sculpture museums will also be open this summer: Gustav III's Museum of Antiquities at the Royal Palace and the Orangery Museum at Ulriksdal.

The royal parks

Stroll through the extensive palace parks, visit Royal Djurgården or take a boat trip to the Fjäderholm Islands.

As well as a wealth of natural experiences, there are also historic buildings, art and sculptures to discover in the parks. The Royal Walks app will guide you for free.
