Bird walk at Ulriksdal
Enjoy the sights and sounds of the birds at Ulriksdal Nature Reserve – part of the Royal National City Park. The Royal Walks app will include a guide to birdwatching in Ulriksdal Palace Park.
The bird walk will be launched in mid-May 2025!
The Royal Walks app will guide you on a walk through Ulriksdal Palace Park, during which you can learn about the park's many birds. The park is a large area with a rich variety of nature. The app will guide you to the various birds' favourite places, and includes examples of their calls.
In the spring, for example, hawfinches can be spotted in the leafless canopy. Nuthatches and stock doves can be seen nesting in the avenue of lime trees, as well as the tawny owl, which has its own favourite tree.
Many different waterfowl can be found along the shoreline of Edsviken Bay. Fishing herons can be seen all year round, but the great crested grebe is the biggest attraction here. An unusually large colony of around twenty pairs usually nests in the reeds. Their fascinating mating behaviour makes for a particularly impressive display in April.
The Ulriksdal area is of great importance for the flora and fauna of the National City Park, thanks to its size and its extensive stretches of varied habitats. There is a wealth of different birds, as well as bats.
You can follow the bird walk all year round, and the whole route takes around two to three hours, depending on how long you stop off along the way. You can of course choose to walk selected parts of the route. The walk passes through hilly terrain in places, and these sections are not cleared or gritted in the winter.
Free download
The Royal Walks app can be downloaded free of charge from the App Store and Google Play. Within the app, choose 'Ulriksdals slottsområde' (Ulriksdal Park). The text is in Swedish and English, and is illustrated with images and audio.
The bird walk will be launched in mid-May 2025, but there are already other themed walks for Ulriksdal in the app.
