The Bernadotte dynasty

Karl XIII had no heirs, so the Riksdag chose the French marshal Jean Baptiste Bernadotte as heir to the Swedish throne. He became king in 1818 under the name Karl XIV Johan, and Sweden has had seven kings from Bernadotte dynasty since then.
